General contractor in Thornhill

Rebuild Pro Contracting rebuilds and renovates home interiors across Thornhill, on both the Vaughan and Markham sides of Yonge Street. Much of Thornhill was built in the 1970s and 1980s, so our rebuilds here often include updating aluminum wiring, original plumbing and dated basements.

Which city do I get a permit from in Thornhill?

Thornhill is split between two municipalities. Homes west of Yonge Street are in the City of Vaughan and homes east of Yonge are in the City of Markham. Each has its own building department, application process and review times. We check your address, apply to the correct office and book inspections with that city's inspectors.

What should I know about a 1970s or 1980s Thornhill home?

Homes built from the mid-1960s to the late 1970s often have aluminum branch wiring. It is safe when every connection uses devices and connectors rated for aluminum, but many insurers ask for an ESA inspection. Homes from the late 1970s through the mid-1990s may have grey polybutylene (Poly-B) supply pipe, which becomes brittle with age.

When a rebuild opens walls in a home of this era, we show you what is there and price the update as a separate option, so you can decide while access is easy.

Thornhill: frequently asked questions

Is aluminum wiring a reason an insurer could deny coverage?

Some insurers will not write or renew a policy on a home with aluminum wiring unless an electrician has inspected it. We can arrange the inspection and any remediation as part of the rebuild.

Can you remove a popcorn ceiling during a rebuild?

Yes. Stipple applied before about 1990 is tested for asbestos first. Once cleared, it is scraped or covered and the ceiling is finished smooth.

Do you work in Thornhill townhouse complexes?

Yes. We coordinate with the condominium corporation where the townhouse is part of one, the same way we do for high-rise units.
